LTI Laser Technologies ULTRA LYTE TESTS! OSSETT BYPASS FRIDAY 13th MAY 2016
CONSISTENTLY HIGHER SPEED READINGS REPEATED EXPERIMENT ON SAME VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT ALTER SPEED...
APPROACH SPEED HIGHER THAN AWAY SPEED FROM BEHIND!
THE FRONT OF THE CAR CONSISTENTLY GIVES A HIGHER SPEED READING THAN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE!!
THE SPEED IS USUALLY 3-5mph faster with readings from the FRONT of the vehicle!
VERY IMPORTANT EXPERIMENT! SAFETY CAMERA OPERATOR WILL NOT TRY THIS EXPERIMENT OFTEN! AS HE USES A FIXED DEVICE POINTING OUT OF ONE WINDOW! not changing direction and repeating more readings from the same vehicle! (though I am willing to bet they know this)

Ok, so I have had my first opportunity to test the LTI Ultralyte out on my dad driving.
He did 4 drives past and did not tell me the speed until afterwards.
His speeds were recorded as
Drive 1. I took 2 readings front of vehicle
29mph and 26mph
Drive 2. I took 2 readings front of vehicle
30mph and 28mph
Drive 3. I took 1 reading front of vehicle
27mph
Drive 4. I took 3 readings front of vehicle.
28mph 28mph and 27mph
No aim tricks were attempted. The registration plate area was aimed at directly.
The device did not like that target area, but readings were obtained.
After the measurements, it was confirmed that the vehicle had been set to 30mph every time!
So the speeds were in fact lower. Only one time did exactly 30mph appear.
I also did speed readings of the back of the vehicle after it had passed and was continued at the same speed....
Drive 1. Front 29+26. Rear 27. Speedo 30. Drive 2 Front 30+28. Rear 27+27. Speedo 30. Drive 3 Front 27. Rear 27. Speedo 30. Drive 4 Front 28+28+27. Rear no reading taken. Speedo 30.
Rear of vehicle speeds as it drives by to re-pass for another drive
Rear 30+27+24 Speedo 30mph Rear 26+31+32 Speedo 30mph Rear 32+32+25 Speedo 30mph
Would by law the correct speed need to be measured for a valid prosecution with the device, or just "any" reading over the speed limit?
I have yet to test out the aim variations for how it effects the reading with a confirmed vehicle speed!
So the correct speed was difficult to obtain, but there were few higher speeds recorded than 30mph, yet many lower.
I need to get the device calibrated I guess then there can be less contest to its accuracy.

Further thoughts and reflections on infra red - though you probably need the lens and filters to block out other light - at least on the senser. my sillyideas...similar to laser measure? video

Here I have a speed detecting session with the LTI at Kendal platform location & "Sus out" the obvious! ALSO find that a 2 seater sports car with long bonnet results in nearly 10mph faster reading than a family car going at the exact same speed! REALLY! exact same folowing speed, but nearly 10mph faster with the LTI ultralyte aiming at the front of the vehicle! Here is an experiment in distance mode of the bonnet, roof & cab partition through the window! this video shows a few errors as well, but because I was looking through the viewfinder while trying to aim the camera! when I did it before using the proper hold, i was able to do it with no errors at all! I will post the videos for similar session earlier on in the day, at the exact Callaghan Haslingden location! video 1 video 2

The device doesnt seem to like doing radings at all starting from under the vehicle or back wheels, or even most of the time starting centre on the front licence plate, at least on similar vans. Which leads me to further investigate the alignment aim of the LTI unit and concept camera LENs & cross hair. (user configured)

A 5mph sign i saw today... quite a lot for an error from a device or incorrect reading!
