This thread was first called "Die Hard" (now I have a machine gun) Ho Ho ho laser tests... Or something like that. But I decided it was a bit bravado.. so I have Changed it to the new title. Sorry about that.
WoW! Cannot belive I have only just got one of these! And didn't think of it earlier! make your own combo! by taping the pen to the zoom lens! with your phone! Just dont blind anyone! especially a speed camera officer! use it to test on "the stig"
See if you can get his back tyre, then front bumper, and same decent red dot on the road or anything else you fancy targeting! You can also make a "Cross hair" print a cross hair on a piece of transparent plastic projector sheeting... stick the laser pen to the zoom lens with tape... then aim the laser... line up the cross hair on the screen with the laser dot at a target.. then stick it in place! Ta - Da!
If you want, just move the cross hair around if you fancy, because frankly, you can see the laser dot.. so who gives a driving licence toss of 3 points or a fine what the fucking thing is aiming at! who cares?!
Laser pen
+ Sellotape +
8x Zoom lens for phone camera
Buy a laser pointer pen from eBay, for only a few pounds! If you are really interested in speed camera vans! And check out how the infra red beam behaves!
I thought this was only going to be decent for testing on the toy cars! But after a very short time experimenting and shining on things around the house and learning how infra red light behaves, hoe it works and reflects off other things, around objects and interacts with the environment... It's really obvious what is going on and possible with the speed cameras!
Also I am surprised how far away you can see the red dot! On other houses, trees, branches!? Even and it will reflect just as good off the road surface as much as a car, a post, grass!? Pretty much anything! You also even get double beams and its goes around slim objects and doubles through windows and lights up inside baubles and things!
I just did a couple really basic tests....
But this experiment now is going to be a lot better than I thought! Because I will be able to actually use it on the van! And see how easy it is to aim and keep steady. Also learn what you can target as well! I could fasten it to the zoom lens of a camera or get one of those helmet cameras or just use the phone and fasten it to it, like the speed camera laser..haha..
The fact you can SEE it really will help show people the targeting behaving real time. Just a shame you cannot shine them at people because it can blind them (unless you get the driver to wear a protection visor like the stig!
Just a shame there is no actual distance measurement fitted to it as well!
But I think these could be great experiments!
Already I've seen you can pretty much target anything on the vehicle!
And I was correct before, when I was challenging the Geordie speed camera verification guy...at Chorley because infra red DOES reflect easy off the floor and road under the vehicle! You don't even need to pinpoint the back wheel! I bet you can even trick it to thinking the road itself is moving, just by shooting the road and changing target to "nearer road" the devices cannot tell the different targets apart it simply reads the distance and changes in distance over about 4seconds of anything you aim at...
But we will see...
Kinda like being Bruce Willis now haha. Against the Terrorists who have taken over the building (in this case, taken over the police buildings and Government/Highways agency)
