I wanted to do something about the claw grab machines. So here is a thread about it.
Did anyone play those soft toy grab machines at the seaside when they were younger? You did seem to be able to win on them sometimes! I saw people walking around with prizes they had won...
But as time went on, it seemed more & more difficult to win on them.
A few year ago I was at Watford Gap North services (the one designed decent) & I noticed someone walk past with a won soft toy. & then a few minutes later.. someone else! I was thinking to myself.. Hmmm. I bet that machine has been set up to win, today. Because I had come to believe that they had been rigging them to loose.
The rigged to loose machine
So a few months after this I noticed they had them at the cinema & I had a few games & it was IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN! It was obvious that the claw was not gripping tight enough. Also the claw would sometimes catch on the cable messing up the game.
If the Claw was the correct tightness, the game still would be difficult as the claw does have a gap in its design of claw ends even when closed. But you can pick up the toys, just that they drop out if it shakes.
Later, when I started this Bentcop.biz project against corruption, I thought I would investigate this further.
I looked into the game operators and distribution and they seemed to have a "kind of covered up operation" somewhat, that reflected the fact that there was something suspicious with what they were doing & the authenticity of the machines.
So I looked into the legislation.
And as far as I can gather (correct me if I am wrong) the grab machines are supposed to be a "SKILL" game that COMBINES SKILL WITH GAMBLING.
And "YOU MUST BE ABLE TO OVERCOME THE ELEMENT OF CHANCE WITH SKILL".
Now, when the claw is set not to grip tight enough to pick up a toy... Then No matter HOW skilled you are, it is NOT going to pick the toy up at all. it is 100% gambling as to if the machine is set to win or not, with no skill that can overcome that.
So, the machines (or the original machines, or modern ones) are not designed, made or operated to the legislation.
So they are illegal.
Also the other point is this. As it is a gambling machine... IT IS ILLEGAL FOR CHILDREN UNDER 16 YEARS TO PLAY.
And they are promoted and aimed at young children as a target customer!
There are some new machines, which you get repeated play until you get a toy out of the machine. And a few other new variations as well that are not "as illegal".
I played on one on the M61 the other day & it was impossible to loose, only that if it picked up a toy that you were not trying for, you had to have that one. I even picked up 2 toys at one go, TWICE!
The bad thing was that these are cheaper toys and also some are positioned to the edge where the claw cannot reach. And this is false advertising as you are under the impression anything is for grabs. Also depending on how full the machine is of soft toys, the claw might not be able to reach those that are deeper or low down.
The good thing was that you could move the claw back and forth on both Axis as much as you wanted. And you could SHAKE the claw with the Joystick. But this had it smashing against the side of the glass, though it was possible to grab a side toy with Fluke. I nearly did this, but I gave up because I ran out of change.
This was an experiment. & where I could spend £15 at the cinema grab machine and end up with no prize at all! at 50p per play, with the machine at the M61 services "Rivington" I did an experiment with £20 and walked out with a huge stack of toys.
(this was for experiment purposes only) I am going to give these away to people for free.
Anyways I have written to the Serious fraud unit in London and they did not seem to care. I have now written to the machine operators & petrol station staff to see if anything can be done about it.
I think it is the arena of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.

They are currently featuring a girl sat at a lap top on the home page? Is this some kind of hint about women playing games with men - like the term "cock tease" IF I AM WRONG SORRY! JUST CURIOUS! I AM NOT SAYING THAT IS ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING OR THAT MEN DONT DO THAT!
Anyways... On subject of GAMBLING.
There seem to be some NEW ministers on this Government department, so I will reserve my comments regarding any previous ones.
So.. I will post some photos.... & am wondering, as there is little evidence you can produce unless you photo or video yourselves playing these machines as to if you can claim back money? Or give the toy back?
Would the government or police bring litigation or prosecute any companies? Can I get the little pink skull rabbit & little mushroom & was trying to win, but that was deceptively placed? What about minions?
I dont seem to be able to find some of the photos I took. They might have vanished, but I have some others that havent & some new pictures as well.. to follow. Exceuse spelling mistakes. I type fast and in dark on an unstable keyboard & have not the time for correction. This is my spare time. I have an A in English and just "cannot be bothered" to do punctuation on this website, because frankly... Why should I have to? I will do it in proper letters when I need to. - Just a point I am making.
Impossible to get anything out of this machine, but the contents change, so are there "hot days" when the settings are changed" or do they move stuff around to make it look like people have won? I am certain that it can be set honesty to win with skill, like in the good old days.
My wins on the "slightly more legitimate game" But I couldnt get the pink rabbit! or it would have been a fluke + $$$ & Time.
Beach patrol?
Two in one grab!
