I just want to talk a bit about YOUTUBE.
And all these claims that music and record labels are making against peoples youtube videos...
When the robots detect content thats assumed to be copied...
Apparently as far as i can gather...
If you have ONE copywrite claim against any of your videos.. You cannot monetize your account . it has to be clean.
But this doesnt stop other entities making money out of your account. On the contrary they can rake it in.
Unless ive misunderstood..
So.... Its impossible for Youtube to completely identify who is using robots to bang on 10 millions of views to their videos... Thus making more money out of youtubes advertising share of the pot.
And they are raking it up when the robot identifies anything in any video...
So the record companies are making millions out of other people... Unless they dont bother responding to the claim..
It seems EMI, Sony and Univeral music are amongst a few that love to contest rights.
Even when you have right. The BBC are like this as well.
Otherwise it would be really easy to monetize your account and you wouldcbe making money from views.. Like pewdiepie is making millions... But so are record companies.. They seem more on the ball than movie companies even.
But most people arent even bothered about money. They just put up videos for fun.
The BBC dont even get many views on their youtube news channel compared to their own iplayer site.
Anyway... As it takes apparently only ONE of your videos to have a copywrite on it... To stop monetization...
Then you cannot make money on ANY of your videos.. Even if the rest are OK and you get millions of views.
So financially this is perfect for YOUTUBE. Because a rule of JUST one video issue... Saves them a lot of money having to pay you out for views on all of your other videos that are fine and popular.
This leaves more money in the pot for youtube. And more for the record companies and television who rake it in from your account... But also then are responsible for you NOT neing able to monetize on your clean videos..
More for THEM both ways..
Also ive found storys of them claiming even when its NOT somebody elses work.
And background radio broadcasts in the car.. That have been paid for with licence fee or commercial advertising already is riddiculous...
But they are claiming for it.. Justin Bieber.. Elton John...to name a few..
Can you imagine if lidle or sainsburys went through your facebook profile and every time there was a photograph of you outside a lidle store or tescos or waitrose...
They either... Got facebook to take the photo down ... OR actually started getting facebook to pay sainsburys every time somebody looked at your photograph?
And to add to the cheek... PREVENTED YOU not only making any money from a view of THAT photo... (If you were making any money from them) but just because they had a claim on ONE photo... It then shut down your entire ability to make ANY money at all on ANY of your photo albums!
Instead.. Facebook would make all the money and then share it with the record companies..
And the record companies and their artists (who are absolutely loaded) can easily recruit for small money (or employ their own) internet team.. Who work on promoting the videos on forums and groups... And through advertising.. To get more and more views.
Paying someone to get 10million views would be simple..
And thats 10 grand proffit.
Youtube cannot possibly track all robots or even begin to track large companies getting people posting links in forums and groups for them all day... Say in China..
Billions of views on their videos.. Making them millions revenue.. For very small chinese wages ( they tend to demand a lot these days though unless your a dragon with a research development centre there)
Anyway... Youtube have supposedly clamped down on the record companies.. But in my Profrssor Christmas thread... When i was promoting my Christmas video on youtube..
I discovered a large presence of cheating and view fixing going on ..
So its still going on ..
And i would have been on youtubes side..
Other than... Unless im wrong..
They are making it really difficult for the average Joe to make money out of youtube unless they are meticulous with their videos...
Mine are protected by the right to petition.. But many of these record companies are being awkward or just dont get it.. And the system youtube provired is awkward..
Youtube dont let you have a telephone number to contact them directly..
So getting automatic exemption on your whole account goes over their head. They want you to argue it out with the record companies..
If you have a lot of videos its annoying and time consuming.. And you cant claim for labour unless you get a lawyer..
So really the record companies and youtube are controlling the playing field that most are just stood there in... While master basketball stars dribble around them and win all the cash from it..
If im wrong about how the monetization rules work... Fine... I should read more.. But this is just my general jist..
Fair enough if you record a programme or song.
But its the accidental background stuff that shouldnt be getting peoples videos pulled..
You shouldnt have to turn the radio off..
If its just there...
Its like a photo with something in the background.. And a radio broadcast has been payed for already..
Its not a camcorder set up in the cinema pirating a movie...
Its obvious to tell whatcis going on. And the record companies know very well.
They just want to milk it.
And i believe they dont have the right to block your entire monetization on your whole account because of a bit of background music..
Then sharking a larger chunk of the money pool with peoples whole accounts un-monetized... And the record companies using cheap labour to super tweak their views up..
I believe its a Youtube/record label collaboration strategy. Imho.
Also note that hardly anyone gets pulled for posting images and videos in forums... Because thats where youtube videos get the majority of views from... Not necessarily the youtube site itself. So why arent record companies demanding money from forums? Well.. They are hard to track and too many and it would loose views not gain views.
Also... Legally i dont think youtube can just go around taking money from people andcautomatically handing the money claim over to the record company or suffer you consequences of a "strike". A robot is not a judge. And why should you get a strike for defending you video ? Its like saying you are guilty until proved innocent. The strike system is actually frightening people into handing video rights over to big record companies.. Who are by miracle managing to (can afford) to get by with no strikes at all. What about youtube getting strikes for faulty robot claims like these..
