The A1 splits into two roads at Washington on the A1. If you take the left fork it continues as the A1 and just after the fork you will find two large (correct size) 50mph terminal signs (if you arent distracted by watching the (safe) slip road at the point near the signs).
Now, this is another example of a pointless 50mph section of dual carriageway other than a perfect opportunity for speed enforcement & entrapment! woo!.
Absolutely no reason what so ever for a 50mph limit, yet the road is policed regularly by the "motorbike police".
Nearby roads - the A19 and A1231 BOTH NATIONAL SPEED LIMIT DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS and IDENTICAL TO THE A1 in construction are evidence that the 50mph A1 speed limit is completely unjust.
There was an original attempt at a Traffic regulation order initially for this road but then they didnt bother.. Also a electronic road works style illuminated sign in use signaling 50mph when no road works were in place!
Now they have initiated some roadworks on that section to give false reason for the previous speed limit of 50mph! and yes! the road works have been issued with a 40mph speed limit, just like the A1 Worksop ones!
The road signage seems to be in order for the 50mph limit but it was completely illegitemate and anyone using the road could easily miss the 50mph terminal signs as they are quite camoflage when negociating the A1 Junction and anyone would innocently drive at National speed limit which the Roads profile suggests.
I will add some photos and more to this soon. (I just want to get everything set out first in sections and then i will add details
