You see .. the problem with the whole psychology of our council compared to other councils that have not been obsessed with building, is in the naming and strategic set up.
The website platform and url addresses for the planning and applications is under a set up called "BETA"
www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/planning-applications/search-for-planning-applications/
The council uses keywords and terms that have a meaning and attachment ..
Many other councils do not implement this type of psychology.
BETA is immediately striking a resonance when you see and read it.
And there are two main thought forms attached to it...
Firstly " Better" beta = betta, better
So that building, altering something will make it "better" than it is. So there is an incentive for improvement. Or its always going to be an improvement.
Where as in many places it actually is not making something better, to change it. And financial value is not always better than original, traditional beauty or value.
So really its pro change attitude and this will not really help to properly protect anything. And we actually physically see this happening all around kirklees and has happened.
Whats being going on in Kirklees is that hardly anything at all has been saved or protected in terms of older original buildings and even many listed for reuse of existing building... Where rarely much is saved. And there is a long tradition and history of breaches.
The other word and interpretation for "BETA" is "Beater" to win. To beat an opponent. And also when you are building and brick laying you use hammers and tools to beat things with.. bricks, nails..
So rather than attaching the "beating" winning.. to the objectors.. it is rather doubling up the interpretation to be on the side of the applicant, the builders.. who have very intimate relationships with the council anyway.
So.. rather than be completely ignorant to the psychology.. there is in fact a very carefully planned and thought out strategy behind very detailed aspects of the councils website and the academic designers of the programs and software in connection with the government is all very top level strategy.
This may seem something and nothing to you..
But as an example.. the Prime Minister David Cameron carefully selected from all available brands of paper.. to issue letters from parliament in response to the public ..
The brand "Conqueror" paper. And true that in fact Cameron did not actually remain as Prime Minister after all . But the sentiment and ideology in the selection and branding of the paper and its meaning still was evident.
My main concern with the employment of strategic wording and content though is now mainly focusing on the joint campaigns that the local council is doing with the bus companies.. TransDev, and the Huddersfield town Football club. And through its own advertising and promotions all around the town centre that we are supposed to be able to object to and have a say in...
Yet the council heavily influences us. And suggests its inevitable success and victory through that media and material as if there is no other alternative and no stopping them.. and this is usually the case.
There are supposed to be laws that prevent the council using promotional material that will influence the public where votes or objections are connected...
But the way the council has evolved actually completely ignores these laws and goes full steam ahead using every tactic and strategy it can to in fact make maximum use of these processes and promotional material. Many times in collaboration with builders and contractors it employs and works with.
