Drivers hit with fines for driving over 40mph on stretch through Conwy on October 21, even though signs indicated limit didn't come in force until day after
Motorists have been hit with fines after being clocked by average speed cameras on the A55 in Conwy - a day before the cameras were supposed to come into operation.
Signs and information online states that the works between Llandudno Junction and Conwy Morfa were scheduled to take place between October 22 and October 29, resulting in a lane closure and a 40mph limit being put in place.
But the Daily Post has learned that many people have been receiving letters today telling them that they’ve been filmed going above the 40mph average speed limit on October 21.
It is not known how many people may have been affected, but thousands of cars travel on the A55 and through the Conwy tunnel every day, and most of the motorists driving the route on October 21 will have believed that the 40mph limit wasn't in place.
Wynne Griffiths, who lives in Llanfairfechan, said his wife had received a letter today (Friday) warning her she was clocked by the cameras.
He told the Daily Post: “The cameras I think were supposed to be on for a week.
“My wife had her letter today saying she was caught on the 21st. Someone has managed to contact (the authorities) and it appears to have been a cock up.

"The signs stated the cameras were supposed to come into operation on the 22nd.
“But there are an awful lot of people who will be coming home today to learn they are facing prosecution.”
On the Llanfairfechan Notice Board Facebook page, several people had posted to say they had been affected.
Some said they had been in touch with the authorities and that another letter was due to be sent out explaining the mistake.
The Daily Post has contacted the Trunk Road Agency and GoSafe, the road safety partnership in charge of speed cameras, and is awaiting a response.
But it is understood North Wales Police is telling motorists that anyone who has received a ticket after 03.00 hours on Friday October 21 will have their ticket cancelled.

A55 speed camera fines mix up apology from GoSafe
A mix up saw cameras still set to a 40mph limit even though they were supposed to have been reset to the normal 70mphevery motorist who thought they were obeying the speed limit was hit with a fin e.
GoSafe, the organisation which controls the cameras, apologised for the mix-up.
A spokesman said: "During a period of essential maintenance within the Conwy tunnel on the A55 in North Wales, a temporary 40 mph speed restriction was in place between Monday 17 October and Friday 21 October.
"For the protection of the workforce and safety of all road users, that temporary speed limit was enforced through an Average Speed Camera System.

"The tunnel works concluded in the early hours of Friday 21 October, and as a consequence the traffic management and temporary speed limit was removed from the A55, and signage was placed out to indicate the cameras were no longer in use.
"Regrettably, the speed cameras were not deactivated at that time, and speed data was still processed by the average speed cameras for several hours afterwards, resulting in Notices of Intended Prosecution being sent out.
"North Wales Police have been made aware of the issue, and will be contacting those individuals who received a Notice after the limit was removed, and no further action will be taken.
"On behalf of GoSafe; the Partnership responsible for co-ordinating activity around speed enforcement through roadside cameras, I would like to apologise to those individuals who have erroneously received a Notice."
