It says in the Peter Ackroyd, Civil War book volume III on page 98 that indeed under James I invited William Shakespeare to perform as "The Kings Men" and they recieved letters patent. Members of the Lord Chamberlain's company.
Therefore the play of Henry VIII would have, containing historical relevance about Thomas Cromwell ....
Later under Charles... Oliver Cromwell would have been a talking point of Parliament members and the King in both his Ancestors dealings and parts played in Government previously which is rarely the subject behind his reasons for motivations leading to his place as Lord Protector of the Commonweald. And also Richard Cromwell would share that legacy.
I think Richard placing himself at Cheshunt in his final days was a statement..
To Chess and a message. In regards to his role in contributing towards the 1688 Bill of Rights...
After all, art is inherent in works of Parliamentary creativity .
Getting a "pawn" (subject) a member of the public.. to allegiance under the King as head of the Church and a protestant, and keen to petition parliament under the new Bill as made in law ... informing on Justices of the peace, Constables and any other important issue.. is getting them to "believe in" parliament and its proceedings
And laws.
Thus could be seen as getting any public opposition to side with the parliament and the King...
Getting an opposition chess piece onto the kings side.
Fairly under respectable rules and law.
Not unlike a fair chess game.
Artistic insights like this should be considered when researching and learning.
After all the franchise political parties were not at that time evolved into how they are now... and it was really all Ministers and parliament together, under the King.
So anything to encourage the public to affiliations with Parliamentary proceedings was desirable.
Where as in the modern day we place foreign immigrant and diverse racial background Ministers.. into Parliament to encourage their respective countries admiration of our country and its ideals.
This is what I meant, sorry.. in chess
Only the King is the sovereign. Everyone else are the subjects. No matter if common man, beggar, Lord, Ministers or Priests. Pawns can become any piece except King. Oliver Cromwell was never the king. A pawn can, if heading for parliament petition the king, as can the bishops, Knights, Ministers. All being subjects.
So if you poetically imagine the analogy and art... as in the style of a legal poet laureate
A pawn (subject) on a intended journey/purpose to parliament (other side of the board) is bestowed with the protection of a knight/bishop/queen (king) as long as it is for acts (moves) intended towards parliament purpose of petitioning the king (even in opposition)
You get that?
clever.
Look... Richard "moves himself" (places himself) in Chesshunt for his last farewell.
If ever a title or message of Lord Protector or any other message was to be left... it's the "Name" that is remembered
Chess pieces move strategically.
Chesshunt is also diagonal from London.
Richard Cromwell nor Oliver were king.
He moved away then moved back later.
If someone is (bringing) evidence, information, petitioning TO parliament...
You don't need to hunt them like a criminal. They are bringing everything to you. To parliament.
Unlike for example... Catesby in the Gunpowder plot who fled to Stafford.. and had to be hunted down pursued.
By coming TO parliament.. peacefully, with dignity under gentlemanly rules, officially with petition.. over a cause.. with a right and law to do so... you are hardly trying to blow the place up or evade the Justices of the peace or being known about..
You are bringing all to bear. Revealing all,
I don't think you appreciate this in the modern day.
There is just the Police Crown Prosecution Service and Judges obsessed with their own little power and set up, ..
Which is the beauty of the test and challenge against them in the Bill of Rights, right to petition..
Will the Justices, Police CPS uphold the right, or act unlawfully themselves and defy it?
Far too clever for most "stupid policemen" these days.. in the revenge by prosecution department
I want to try avoid art evidence in this thread. Its supposed to be historical and factual evidence only... but there needs to be example of the creative and poetic great minds..
Unfortunately the minds of District Judges do not qualify for this level of evidence to be acknowledged or used.
So I will try to stick to factual and historical evidence ..
Oh.... of any further consequence..
Richard Cromwell did get to "France" you could say the other side in a bigger game..
And we later find a opposing king come and take the throne.. William orange. With the creation of the new Bill..
Fortunately there was more than Television and Radio to think about and entertain thinking back then... more than your average 10 minute court session in Leicester with DJ Watson... after 100 miles drive there then and back again...
Hardly a fair hearing... I would say the man has become too accustomed to dealing with drunkards and domestics... from the local distillery.
A fool on a throne who has allowed Justice to be reduced to an insult of intelligence and a waste of time and money
