The think with this virus, we all being told to stay in.... because of a virus...
But really it's not that different from the Jews being told they were just going for a shower.. before they got gassed. They sort of believed it..
This is why Chris Hedges has a good point
And why we need to make certain our rights aren't taken away..
I am not certain the new idea to refuse to pay Bill's is a good idea from extinction rebellion..
You have to agree to all their clauses to join the movement...
That's a good thing, but ultimately down the path.. that itself could lead into the same type of group thinking and affiliations itself...
Such as in the Fight Club movie... that could have serious implications..
Although I guess the Miners Strike is a good example. Though they were under very strong control of their leaders..
It's clear that the Extinction Rebellion group have won their right to use paint and logos to promote their cause...so that's a good thing really because that has always been a major part of promoting fair messages and voting and political messages..
Even if its form and style is somewhat radical and pushing the boundaries of politics and art working together.
Here is the link to all the Extinction Rebellion artwork anyway.. some of it is pretty nice.
www.dropbox.com/sh/37ht3or2hd5bxxs/AAAah5YNG2V7SXq2-tkYsWtca?dl=0If you don't have dropbox you can just click on "continue to website" and the folders will open... and you can download the art from each folder as you want..
Remember that although these are now all official extinction rebellion artworks & logos some of them don't actually have the XR letters or Extinction Rebellion word..
But if you want more confidence to use a logo without it being mistaken for not being an official logo, you can combine the script of other logos.. to add the writing/logo so its clearly identified what it is.
Then there is less hassle from the Authorities, Council, Police.
Now that XR have won their court case...
Although I don't believe it should have been a defence anyway or a plea side case.
It should have been recognized as not an offence in law, to have to answer to the charge.
Because of the fact there was a right & interest used and it was political materials.. there is actually no offence.
It changes the law of the Criminal Damage act 1971, in that the claim of the (act) by the person is not to be construed as a defence, to the charge.
The case is that (or in fact there is no case) of..
" Acting With a lawful excuse" is not an offence to be charged with. Therefore there is nothing to defend.
As opposed to.. acting..
" Without lawful excuse"
Which IS an offence you would have to defend against with a case.
Claiming the right, is not a defence in itself as a claim. Its giving notice to the authorities, council, police that you are not breaking the law in the first place by merit of the material being lawful to use.
Just as the local council are free to use stickers, glue and paint themselves for local council purposes.
This is why there is a specific exemption from the distribution of advertising materials legislation.. for political materials. So distribution of those political materials is not an offence.
Its just that they didn't write it out so clearly in the Criminal Damage act 1971. Yet it means the same thing. In fact it has a lot wider scope than the Distribution of printed materials and advertising materials legislation.
I have already covered this subject in depth when I did my own campaign art.
I still have not had my own stickers and art returned by West Yorkshire police, although I did apply for it and give notice multiple times. I am currently chasing the matter up with the Police & Crime Commissioner..
I think the police might have stolen it for art value...
Because they arrested Banksy around that time.. and revealed his real name.
It seems banksy has now joined up with Extinction Rebellion and is back to the street art again..
